Mission 2 - Employment

Doctor Jerry Rytloc's Journal Entry #5: Mission 2 - Employment (commence)

LEARN:
So I've noticed that a lot of people are being laid off. Xia's uncle has been laid off from his job at NCI Buildings. His uncle has been working for the company for over 10 years and now they can't keep everyone, so they laid off a lot of people. The thing is we are recovering from a recession and we can't do much about it. When people are earning less they spend less so companies and businesses don't have enough money to keep up with paying the employees so then they're laid off. At a time like this people are willing to save rather than spend so hence this cycle.

ACT:
Hmm... what can I do to help. It's very open ended at this point. The thing is people just got to realize that the less they spend the less companies get money. I am not blaming the people for not spending money though because we are recovering form a recession and it's all just a mess. It's hard to create new jobs when companies are struggling to stay alive. I guess I will move my free walk-in clinic to Modesto and ease the pain of the people. It's all free! If they don't have to worry about paying for their healthcare they can then spend it at local stores to help sales thus making the wheel turn again!

IMAGINE:
If I, Doctor Jerry Rytloc, Healzor the Healer could obtain as much power and resource possible I would make a handout not to big businesses but to the locals in Modesto. Chances are they will save, but then again chances are they will spend more if they have more. We have to continue this cycle so that it insures the remaining companies, businesses, and stores will stay open and hiring people. Bailing out big companies is not necessarily a good thing because the head of the company will just take the money and run! It's been done before, we got to help the people first.

Mission 2 - Employment (Preview)

Doctor Jerry Rytloc's Journal Entry #4: Mission 2 - Employment (Preview)

I have arrived in Modesto because I heard that employment is also declining in the area. Teachers are being laid off and businesses are not doing so well. My plan is to move my free clinic here and provide free healthcare to those who need within the area. By doing this I hope I will attract people to come to Modesto, not only will their health be taken care of they can come together and collaborate on how to fix this problem. I hope by doing so I will attract more local businesses to open up within the area so that people could get jobs. Keep in mind not everyone will be able to because we're our economy is in such a state, I'll do what I can to help though.

Mission 1 - Education

Doctor Jerry Rytloc's Journal Entry #3: Mission 1 - Education (commence)

Upon arrival I drove to Atwater, California where Xia lived and is staying at his place for now. He welcomed me and made his small place to accommodate me as well. So we spent good hours going over education cuts in California and all over the United States. He told me that a lot of after school programs are being cut such as Leadership Clubs to Music Clubs. This is a bad thing because without these clubs students would not be able to accomplish things outside of school that can benefit the community and their education. No music clubs meant no one to help students who are musically talented sharpen their skills. We need everyone to be aware of this and we need to do something about it as soon as possible!

LEARN:
I interviewed one of Xia's close relative. They are a nice family of six. Two children are in high school and the other two are in elementary. I talked to the parents and they are very well aware of how the downturn of the economy has effected their children's educational system. The dad told me that he got laid off from his older job not too long ago and was struggling to find another job which he did found just two months ago. The mom is a stay-at-home mother and raise the four children mostly on her own because the father works all day and only come home late at night.

Their second oldest son who had after school tutoring two years ago doesn't get it now. They don't speak English very well because they're South East Asian so this make it a lot harder on them as they try to communicate with the school and what the school is doing in terms of trying to cope with budget cuts. Their translator who usually translate between them and their student's teacher during a student-parent-teacher conference has been laid off so this only really just deepens the wound.

Not only that a lot of elementary school traditions such as Field Day and yearly field trips has been cut. They have noticed that within the past year or two the elementary school that their children are attending  had dropped field trips entirely. This is very devastating because when I was younger one of the things I really enjoyed and remember from elementary school were class field trips whether it was to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to learn about fishes and dolphins or the the local library they all sculpted who I am today. You can't just learn day in and day out of a book, field trips are essential to educational growth! Kids need to be able to experience the Science Museum or the Space Museum or whatever museum their city has to offer because believe it or not children will be more prone to remembering something when it's hands on and it's right in front of them.

The family hasn't really been able to do anything about the changes in the education of their children. This is a very sad situation because the problem is beyond them and their own budget. They are trying their best to cope with the changes as with the school.

ACT:
I am not sure how I could help with this growing problem. But I told Xia I would do everything in my "power" to help out his community. I know right now that a lot of people are in budget crisis and it seems the government has other things on their to-do list, this really saddens me. Not only is education a big issue, health care is in big debate as well. With my healing powers and connection I can open up a clinic here and treat as many people as my body will allow me daily for free. I know many other doctors who are willing to help.

My gift that I was born with were given to me for a greater purpose I didn't ask for it but people are asking for help I cannot deny the help of another fellow human being. I hope this will help the people with their health care issues so they can better cope with other things that need to be coped with. If a person is not sick and is not so much stressed they will be able to think clearer and make better decisions for their family, whether it be for their child's education or something else.

All we need to do is help one another and realize that we are only as different as how we look like. What we feel inside and what we go through are very similar as in terms of stress and raising a family and putting a child or children through school during such a tough time. People should be helping one another in a time of need, open up a free food center, or free after school tutoring. Xia's brother use to tutor people in math during high school after school was over for a very small fee but I am sure if Xia talks to him he could probably help out again. Or if a person who is musically talented could spend an hour or two helping out children with their piano lessons. What the government won't do we as the people should be doing. The government should be holding us in their hearts but that is not the case, only if we lived in a perfect world...

IMAGINE:
If I, Doctor Jerry Rytloc, Healzor the Healer could obtain as much power and resource possible I would make first and foremost that the people of this country be on top of the to-do list. We can't be wasting our resources on dropping more bombs on other countries. When people look at our war history and then look at the state in which our country is in they would completely understand. We pumped so much time, effort, money, and resource into two wars now our economy and the people here are suffering for it as well. We are not only dropping bombs on other countries but we are dropping it on ours as well... Think about it.

Resources is not infinite, nothing really ever is except renewable energy which one don't use enough of. I would make sure we use our resource in a more limited way. I know people who brush their teeth and let the water run for minutes on end when we have people in other places around the world that can't even get a droplet... Think about it. We as a nation consume the most of the non renewable energy... We got to find alternative.

Now if we can sustain our budget and our economy then everything below that such as education, healthcare, etc. would be a lot easier to solve and mend. It starts from all the way up there, we have to work from there down to where education and healthcare is at. We can't work with any of these if we don't fix our budget and debt first. Imagine...

A New Purpose

Doctor Jerry Rytloc's Journal Entry #2: A New Purpose

I work around the world and travel a lot. At times it does takes it toll and patrolling the town, city, or country I am at for that night really adds to my stress. Recently the crime rate has subsided, I am not sure if there are more like me out there helping me fight off crime but this is a good thing. I can finally turn my attention to something else for the time being.

A good friend of mine Xia Yang, contacted me not too long ago that the education in California, United States has been going down hill. School programs are being cut and students of all ages are asked to pay out of their pockets or their parent's for the things that should be made available for the public to use and learn. This is a big problem because fixing education for our students should one of the top things listed on the government's to-do list. Xia has asked me if there was something I can do to help. He is one of the two people who ever knew of my powers, the other one being my deceased mother. He has been a good friend to me and has helped me in severe situations. Now he knows that I have connection and is asking if I could do anything to help this growing problem. I will do everything in my power to help out with this flawed educational system.

I am flying out to California as soon as possible.

Strengths and Limits

Doctor Jerry Rytloc's Journal Entry #1: Strengths and Limits

Another year has gone by and I think I am beginning to really understand the source of my healing powers. Every time I heal someone I get weaker in strength. Sleeping and resting rejuvenates my powers; I need to gauge my powers whenever I use them. I haven't really had much trouble getting around town at night and it seems it would be that way for awhile. The crime rate has gone down as well as the number of victims I have helped. This is a good thing, it looks like I can worry about other things for now...

Dr. Jerry Rytloc

Children sometimes are born with an extraordinary gift. A two year old child who can play music like Mozart; Another child who understands chemistry and can do complex equations before ever enrolling into grade school. Jerry Rytloc was special like these other children. However he was born with a very abnormal gift, a gift of healing, a hand that can heal the hurt and save the dying. Not only that he can channel his power to kill if threatened. With this gift however there is a curse, his power is limited and he can only save so many people as his life force allows him; this limit is his weakness and he's not the only one that knows this...

Jerry's mother, Rita is the core of his power and she taught him everything from selfless love of others to understanding and saving people who are in need of healing. Jerry's father left his mother and him when he was born 30 years ago. They have never heard of him since that day. Rita never gave up on Jerry and knew that he had a gift like none other. His left hand can heal or mend broken bones, cuts, wounds, bruises and such simply by that of a touch. Rita found this out when Jerry repaired a bird's broken wing when he was eight years old, she noticed him holding the bird in his hand with a green glow emitting from his left palm. What she doesn't know is that his right hand can channel is life force to deadly energy that can also kill, and she never knew of this hidden power even upon her death bed. On the night of his mother's death he was filled with so much sorrow, sadness, guilt and anger that his right hand glowed red. He didn't think much of it, however it wouldn't be the last time he sees it.

Rita passed away due to cancer when Jerry was 21. Jerry held a guilt since that day because he failed to save his dying mother. He can heal wounds and cuts but his power has not grown enough to heal something of such a degree. He then dedicated his life to medicine and earned his doctorate degree and is now known as Dr. Rytloc and works for more than twenty hospitals throughout the world. As he immerse his life into the world of medicine and healing his powers grew and he continues to understand and control his powers to a higher degree.

He eventually developed a costume and went out during the evening to patrol the streets of his city. For those who he can't help in the hospitals he helps on the streets. People called him Healzor, The Healer. No one knows who Healzor really is and Dr. Rytloc himself thought the same as well... but he was wrong.

Behind the Mask

I am Xia Yang, an Art Major student currently attending CSU Stanislaus in Turlock, CA. I was born in Laos and came here to California, USA with my family of 10 in 1992. We didn't have much to begin with but we had each other. I am the 4th oldest and the 4th of my family to go to college. My older siblings all graduated from CSU Stanislaus and I hope to continue the tradition this spring. My younger sister under me however has broken the tradition already and is pursuing her career in medication / nursing at UC Berkeley, it's not a bad thing I am proud of her!

I am an easy going guy, easy to get a long with and I always give other people the benefit of the doubt. All around nice guy and I will let you get the last slice of the pizza... :) If I am not overly hungry. I am a movie buff, a video game addict, an artist, an animal lover, and I love listening to music, especially Alternative Pop and Rock: Coldplay, Keane, Muse, Switchfoot, Maroon 5, Boys Like Girls, Plain White T's, Neon Trees, The Killers, etc. I can get pretty lazy on days that I have nothing to do, especially weekends. I like all sorts of food and I like to try new things out.

I am one of those "Jack of all trades, master of none" type of guy. Well maybe more Jack of all trades IN ART. I don't really have any particular subject in art that I am proficient in. However I do a lot of photo-editing, web constructing, graphic designing, photoshop painting as well as acrylic painting, drawing, etc... I like to sharpen my skills in graphic design and I see that as a future career. With acrylic and water color painting it's more like a hobby--like playing the guitar. I don't mind selling off those works in the future if people do want to purchase them.

I like all aspects of art, whether it be the visual aesthetics or the philosophy. I however dislike all other subjects and rather do poorly in them, well except music because I do play the guitar, not the best but I do manage. What I want out of this class is just to have a good time and learn about motion graphics because this is a topic that I haven't really touch upon.
